Constipation is a kind of irregular bowel condition that is defined as having fewer than three bowel movements in a week. Constipation may come in the form of experiencing infrequent bowel movements or having difficulty in defecating. In some cases, constipation can be combined with diarrhea. This alternate pattern of experiencing constipation and diarrhea is known as the irritable bowel syndrome.

Types of constipation in the rectum

According to medicinenet.com, there are two types of constipation - acute and chronic. Acute constipation is the type of constipation that needs urgent assessment as it may cause serious diseases such as colon cancer. In some cases, it may be accompanied by bleeding, abdominal pain, weight loss, and vomiting which may be a sign of a serious condition.

Meanwhile, chronic constipation is the type of constipation that doesn’t need urgent medications. It may be treated with bowel relief medications and does not pose an imminent threat to the health.

Tips on relieving constipation

While proper diagnosis is needed to properly treat constipation, there are constipation relief tips you can do at home to help improve your bowel movement. Some of the things you can do include increasing fiber intake in your diet using supplements and fiber-rich food and practicing regular bowel movement by not suppressing the urge to defecate every time it comes up.

Food good for immunity and digestion

To prevent constipation, you should eat foods which are rich in dietary fibers and natural lubricants. Among the best sources of fiber include fruits, vegetables, wheat, psyllium seed, and oats. You should eat a minimum of five servings of fruits and vegetables a day until your digestive system starts to work properly.
